Inquiry-Based Teaching in Life Sciences

Go!

Hello, I'm Maria Sgrò, a mathematics and science teacher in middle school in Sicily. I love my work and I am happy to see the smiling eyes of my pupils when they reach a goal. For many years I've been using technology to keep up to date on innovation in teaching, before the social era I used e-mails and newsletters. I really like to use scientific investigation with my students and develop their critical sense

Importance of experiencing inquiry

Why do you think it is important to experience inquiry as an adult learner?

The ability to investigate and, consequently, the development of scientific thinking, are important at all ages, because they allow us to properly evaluate our own assumptions and those of others.

Fruit preparation

Think of some ways to compare the two fruit preparations (let us call the one on the left of your screen preparation A and the one on the right preparation B). Formulate several hypotheses that could possibly explain the observed differences between fruit preparations A and B, one week after opening.

In my experience, if the jars of jam have been stored in the same way, and only one has moldy, it means that preparatione A already contained spores at the time of preparation and it was not well sterilized

Revisited hypotheses

Post the hypothesis you think was the most plausible (from the ones you developed previously) in this Padlet. If none of them is still plausible, please formulate a new one.
My first hypothesis was wrong. I was fooled by the fact that I thought the two preparations were the same. Instead, now, I suppose, the presence of sugar, has prevented the proliferation of yeast
